  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 1/3 cups almond meal
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Warm milk and butter in the microwave; pour into the flour mixture along with one egg and extracts. Mix until combined.
  3. Switch to the dough hook and add remaining flour; knead until smooth.
  4. Let dough rise in an oiled bowl until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Prepare filling by mixing room temperature butter with almond meal, sugar, egg, extracts, and salt until thick paste forms.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly on top and roll tightly.
  7. Cut into 12 rolls and place in a parchment-lined pan; let rise again for 1 hour.
  8. Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare frosting by blending cream cheese with butter, powdered sugar, and extracts; frost warm rolls.
