Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread (1214 slices)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the brioche or challah into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard over the bread slices, pressing gently to soak. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.
  5. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes if desired for a crispy top.
  6. Sprinkle sugar over the top and use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar until crispy.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving with fresh berries, powdered sugar, or maple syrup.
