  • 2 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/4 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast
  • Nonstick spray, butter, or oil
  • Cornmeal for flouring pans
  • 1/3 cup melted butter, divided

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, warm water, salt, sugar, and yeast until moist and sticky. Cover with oiled plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  2. Grease two loaf pans with nonstick spray and sprinkle cornmeal inside to coat.
  3. Divide the risen dough between the pans (do not overfill). Cover lightly with oiled plastic wrap and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake loaves for 30 minutes; brush with half of melted butter and return to oven for another 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from pans onto a cooling rack; brush with remaining melted butter before cooling completely.
