  • 23 boneless beef cutlets
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup Japanese panko breadcrumbs
  • Shredded cabbage (for serving)
  • Bottled tonkatsu sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot to 350°F (176°C).
  2. Rinse and pat dry the beef cutlets, then season with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls: one with cornstarch, one with beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Coat each cutlet first in cornstarch, then dip into the egg, and finally press into the panko until fully covered.
  5. Carefully fry each cutlet in hot oil for about 3-5 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels before slicing.
  7. Serve immediately with shredded cabbage and tonkatsu sauce.
